Feds Classify Auto Repair Facilities As 'Essential' During COVID-19

March 20, 2020

Auto repair and maintenance facilities have been deemed “essential” during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a memorandum issued by the federal government yesterday.

“If you work in a critical infrastructure industry, as defined by the Department of Homeland Security, such as healthcare services and pharmaceutical and food supply, you have a special responsibility to maintain your normal work schedule,” a Memorandum on Identification of Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers During COVID-19 Response, sent on March 19 by Christopher Krebs, director of cybersecurity and infrastructure security agency, United States Department of Homeland Security, stated.

The list of essential workers is designed “to help state and local officials as they work to protect their communities, while ensuring continuity of functions critical to public health and safety, as well as economic and national security.”

The memorandum, including the complete list of essential service providers, can be viewed here.
