Discount Tire Opens in Pittsburgh

Feb. 12, 2020

Discount Tire has moved into its 36th state with the opening of a store in Pittsburgh, Pa. The nation's largest independent tire dealership turns 60 years old in 2020. It grew out of the hard work of its legendary founder, Bruce Halle, who Modern Tire Dealer honored as its Tire Dealer of the Year in 2014.

Reinalt-Thomas Corp., which dba Discount Tire and America's Tire, has grown steadily over the past seven years, opening stores in 11 new states. The company surpassed 1,000 stores in 2018, months after Halle's death.

"Pennsylvania has been a state we've wanted to be a part of for years," says Darwin Medearis, assistant vice president of Discount Tire's Great Lakes region. "We are excited to bring our excellent service, knowledgeable employees, fair prices, and comprehensive selection to this great state to meet the needs of our new customers."

The Pittsburgh store is located at 7601 McKnight Road. In August 2017 when the company announced its plans to move into Pennsylvania it said it would be announcing more stores in other markets in the state. (At the time, Discount Tire had 950 stores; as of the latest Modern Tire Dealer 100 list of the top dealerships in the U.S., the tally had risen to 1,033.)

Zach Ratliff, manager of the Discount Tire store in Pittsburgh, says, "We are honored to become part of Pittsburgh's historic community and look forward to playing our part in keeping drivers safe on the road."
