3M Auto Designs Brake Cleaner to Work Faster

Nov. 1, 2017

3M Auto has boosted the cleaning power of its High Power Brake Cleaner, which is offered in three volatile organic compound (VOC)-compliant formulations.

The company is displaying the brake cleaner at the 2017 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show Oct. 31-Nov. 3 in Las Vegas.

The company says new technology enables its low-VOC level cleaner to remove oil up to eight times faster than the previous equivalent VOC (volatile organic compounds) level. The high-VOC level cleaner has also been improved and removes oil up to two times faster.

Four states (California, Utah, Delaware and New Hampshire) have low-VOC regulations in place. Connecticut and Maryland are expected to enact low-VOC regulations in 2018, according to Kevin Ansell, applications engineer for 3M.

The company expects more states will switch from medium VOC-compliance to the low VOC category. “We’re focused on making the low VOC formulation work better,” he says.

In addition to faster cleaning of oil and contaminants, the improved brake cleaner requires less product to be used per job and reduces cleaner odor in the shop.

3M Auto is a division of 3M Co. based in St. Paul, Minn.
