Wilkes-Barre, Pa.-based McCarthy Tire Service Co. is opening a new retread plant.

The 22,000-square-foot Bandag facility in Kearneysville, W. Va., starts up on March 22. It will retread up to 150 light truck and medium commercial truck tires a day, according to company Vice President Neil Horn. "We'll be up to 220 tires a day by the summer."

McCarthy decided to open the new plant after outgrowing its Capital Heights, Md., retread facility. The new site will employ 13 people and gives the dealership better access to its retail and commercial outlets. "We can expand the building up to 50,000 feet," Horn says.

With two retread shops that produce 60 light truck and nearly 500 medium commercial truck tire retreads a day, McCarthy is the 26th largest retreader in the United States, according to Modern Tire Dealer data.
