Nokian Opens 7th North American Distribution Center

Sept. 14, 2017

Nokian Tyres Inc. has expanded its distribution network in North America, opening its seventh facility near Chicago.

The 211,000-square-foot facility in Shorewood, Ill., is located about 50 miles southwest of Chicago. It can hold up to 275,000 tires. The first deliveries were made Aug. 1 to customers throughout the Midwest.

“The opening of the Shorewood distribution center is another example of Nokian Tyres' commitment to investing in North America and meeting the growing consumer demand for our tires,” says Tommi Heinonen, Nokian's head for North America. “The distribution center has already helped reduce delivery times improving our ability to serve customers throughout the region.”

The facility will be managed by Xpedient Logistics, a third-party logistics organization that also manages Nokian's distribution center in Montreal.

Heinonen says Nokian has experienced "significant success" working with Xpedient in Montreal.

The company says the expansion of its distribution networks marks another step forward in its commitment to the North American market. Nokian is hosting a ground breaking event at its first tire manufacturing site on the continent later this month.

“Our increasing network of distribution centers in the US and Canada, as well as the opening of the Tennessee plant are key examples of steps Nokian Tyres has taken to ensure sales in North America are doubled in the next five years,” says Heinonen.
