Tanner Foust Looking For Redemption At GRC Seattle

Sept. 7, 2017

Rockstar Energy Drink driver Tanner Foust is looking for redemption as the Global Rallycross Championship returns to Evergreen Speedway this weekend in the heart of the Pacific Northwest.

Foust won the race in Monroe, Washington, last season and the versatile driver says he is returning to familiar territory. He has won Formula Drift series battles at the track as well as raced nearby on a course once used by Group B cars in the World Rally Championship.

"I love competing in this region," said Foust. "I've been racing here since the start of my career. I spent eight seasons in Formula Drift at Evergreen Speedway and raced the Olympus Rally not too far from here when I was running stage rally. I'm looking forward to being back."

The oval track, located about a half-hour outside Seattle, is a popular venue for action motorsport and plays host to Formula Drift events each July. It is configured for rallycross this month to include dirt, jumps, and a Joker lap.

This weekend brings a doubleheader competition to the facility for the first time, with two full points scoring races set to take place Friday through Sunday. Full coverage airs Saturday and Sunday at 4:30 p.m. ET on NBC.

With just three races remaining in the 2017 season, the championship battle is heating up. Foust is looking to make a comeback after a tough weekend at the Atlantic City doubleheader in August.

"To go from the points lead to third in one weekend in Atlantic City was a disappointment. But with 162 points on the line for two races this weekend, this is a championship that is far from over and my redemption story starts now."

Heading into this weekend, Foust is narrowly in third, just three points behind rival Steve Arpin in second place. Volkswagen teammate Scott Speed currently leads the standings. Foust and Speed are both two-time series champions and the two have traded the points lead this season. Partner Volkswagen leads the manufacturer's championship.
