Border Tire To Buy Remaining TCi Locations in California

Oct. 10, 2018

Border Tire LLC will double its number of commercial tire locations when it acquires five Tire Centers LLC (TCi) stores from Michelin North America Inc. in California. The Texas-based dealer also is buying its second retread plant.

Border Tire says it is acquiring the TCi Tire Centers in Bakersfield, Van Nuys, Fontana, Santa Fe Springs, and Lakeside Calif. The dealership, which will be expanding its footprint into California for the first time, also acquired a Michelin Retread Technologies plant. The locations are the last of TCi's assets in California.

The dealer previously had acquired two TCi locations in Arizona. Border Tire operates full service commercial stores in Laredo and El Paso, Texas, Las Cruces, N.M., and Tucson and Phoenix, Ariz. The company also operates an Oliver retread plant in El Paso.

“Taking on these additional locations will not only grow our customer base but it will give us the opportunity to give our customers the absolute best service in the Southwest,” says Border Tire Owner Royal Jones.

Jones has well-rounded interests in the commercial transportation business. Border International operates two truck dealerships in El Paso and Las Cruces. He says the expansion will give residents, those in the agriculture industry and truck drivers access to the best selection of tires, products and premium service in the Southwest and along the West Coast.

“You need the right people in place to make these locations work, and I feel we have the right people to get the job done,” he says.

Grand opening dates for the California locations will be announced in 2019.
