Bridgestone Corp. prepares to release 2000 results

Feb. 20, 2001

Bridgestone Corp. will release its 2000 financial report on Thursday. However, the results will be less than satisfactory, according to analysts.

In December, Bridgestone warned the financial community that 2000 results would be much lower than predicted at the beginning of the year. The Japanese company also posted a $750 million special loss to cover direct and indirect costs related to the Firestone recall in the United States.

Bridgestone's stock price was selling for $8.57 as of Feb. 19. On July 31, prior to the recall announcement by subsidiary Bridgestone/Firestone Inc., the stock was selling at $22.99 a share.
