BFS begins contacting Firehawk owners following recall announcement

Feb. 20, 2001

In a press conference this afternoon, Bridgestone/Firestone (BFS) Inc. announced it will start contacting owners of recalled P205/55R16 Firehawk GTA-02 tires by mailing out notices.

"All notices will be mailed out by March 12," says a company spokesperson.

BFS will replace the recalled tires for free at authorized Firestone retailers with new Firehawk GTA-02 tires of the same size. The Bridgestone Potenza RE92 and Bridgestone Turanza EL41 also are available as replacements.

"We have sufficient supply. There is no need to go to competitive outlets for replacements."

Tires subject to the recall have one of the following DOT numbers: W2T2 VF3 289 through W2T2 VF3 529; W2T2 VF3 010 through W2T2 VF3 170; and W2T2 VF3 1800 through W2T2 VF3 4500. They were made at BFS' Wilson, N.C., plant between July 1999 and November 2000, according to company officials.

The tires were shod on an estimated 22,000 Nissan Altima SE cars at the original equipment level.
