Virginia Tire & Auto Expands in Springfield

Aug. 30, 2018

MSS Inc., dba Virginia Tire & Auto LLC, has made a big investment in its property in Springfield, Va. And it's about more than just additional space to sell and install tires.

Myron Boncarosky, founder and chairman of Virginia Tire & Auto, has a long history with the property at 6620 Backlick Road. In 1966, as a Texaco representative, he trained the Texaco dealer who owned the property. In 1980, Boncarosky purchased the Texaco service station, and it eventually became known as Backlick Shell. In early 2000, Boncarosky purchased the adjacent Brookfield Plaza Shell and built a Virginia Tire & Auto store there. And now the property has undergone another transformation.

The 1960s era Backlick Shell facility was demolished and a new station was built to modern standards. Plus, more space was added for Virginia Tire & Auto. The tire dealer will operate out of both 6620 and 6626 Backlick Road.

The properties are located within the Fairfax’s Springfield Commercial Revitalization District Development, and Virginia Tire & Auto has worked with the Office of Community Revitalization on the project.

“Our company has a long history with this property and it is important for us to be heavily-invested in the Springfield Revitalization District,” says Mike Holmes, CEO of Virginia Tire & Auto. “As we celebrate more than 40 years in business, we will always deliver the exceptional customer service and matchless experience my father-in-law began in 1976.”

“Virginia Tire and Auto is a tremendous family owned and operated part our community, and they’ve made innumerable contributions to our area over the years,” says Supervisor Jeffrey McKay. “I’m excited to see the new renovations and am certain these upgrades and recommitment to its customers and the Springfield community will have many positive, long-lasting impacts.”

The Shell station and added tire dealership space opened Aug. 24. Virginia Tire & Auto netted one more service bay with the expansion. (The two buildings are basically next door to each other.)

In Springfield Virginia Tire & Auto offers:

  • 12 service bays;
  • Shell gasoline;
  • state-of-the-art equipment;
  • extended hours;
  • a loaner car service (a fleet of 50 vehicles company wide);
  • dedicated customer shuttle; and
  • children's play area.

Holmes, the CEO, says, “As part of this revitalization project, we will continue to preserve the neighboring Calamo Street Park by maintaining the landscaping at the park. It is our gift to the community.”

“Our customers can continue to rely on our commitment to car care service at the new Springfield location and all of our locations,” says Julie Holmes, president of Virginia Tire & Auto.

At 10 a.m. on Sept. 11 the Springfield location will celebrate with a grand opening and ribbon cutting celebration.

Virginia Tire & Auto operates 14 locations in Ashburn, Bristow, Centreville, Chantilly, Fairfax (Main Street Shell), Falls Church, Gainesville, South Riding, Springfield, Sterling and the Town of Vienna.
