Sullivan Tire’s Jon Dickerman Earns World Class Technician Award

June 5, 2018

Jon Dickerman is the first employee of Sullivan Tire Co. Inc. to earn world class technician status and is among fewer than 2,000 technicians nationwide to reach this level of automotive service education.

World class technician status requires National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in 22 specialty areas of automotive diagnostics and repair.

According to the Auto Care Association (ACA), there are an estimated 879,000 technicians in the U.S., over 300,000 of which are ASE certified, and almost 2,000 of these technicians have achieved world class technician status. Dickerman is now counted among the ranks of those 2,000 technicians.

Dickerman began his career with Sullivan Tire when he was just 16 years old. His father, Steve Dickerman, originally managed the Jordan Marsh Car Care Center, which was acquired by Sullivan Tire in the mid-80s and is now the Braintree #23 retail location. As a child, if there was no one to watch Jon at home, he hung out with his father at the shop; that’s where his passion for auto service began. Although Jon was too young to actually work on vehicles, he did odd jobs around the shop like mow the grass or sweep the floors.

When he was old enough, Jon’s first official job with Sullivan Tire was as a general service technician preforming oil changes and tire changeovers. Taking full advantage of the paid training Sullivan Tire has to offer and passing the required Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) test series, Jon reached the status of master technician by the time he was just 18 years old.

After being awarded the title of master technician, continued to study and went on to achieve the titles of L1, L2, and L3 master technician, and now world class technician. To reach a world class technician status, a tech must obtain 22 specific ASE certifications. Since he has reached this status, he will be considered a world class technician for life, never having to retake the exams.

Today, Jon is the manager of the mobile diagnostics team at Sullivan Tire. This team of technicians specializes in computer diagnostics and programming, and travel across New England to assist Sullivan Tire stores with complex jobs that may require factory scan tools or additional assistance.

Sullivan Tire says it continues to encourage and support employees to advance their careers and looks forward to officially announcing Jacob Shuter and Bill Onessimo as world class technicians next year.
