Kumho Recalls 1,773 Solus KH16 Tires

May 8, 2018

Kumho Tire U.S.A. Inc. is recalling certain Solus KH16 tires in size P225/65R17 because the tire belts may separate under severe conditions.

Kumho says the recall affects 1,773 tires. Based on the inspection of returned tires and random testing, the tires, which were manufactured at the company's plant in Macon, Ga., don't meet the internal high speed test for belt separation. Kumho says incorrect material was used in the subject tires during the manufacturing process during the 13th week of 2017.

The affected tires were produced between March 26, 2017, and April 1, 2017.

Kumho will notify owners, and dealers will replace all affected tires, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Kumho customer service at 1-800-445-8646.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign number for this recall is 18T004000.

Owners also may contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
