Giti Sponsors Math and Science Contest

April 16, 2018

Giti Tire Manufacturing (USA) Ltd. is doing more than building tires in Chester County, S.C. As part of the tire company's efforts to support its local community, Giti is sponsoring a math and science club and competition in the local school district.

This is the second year Giti has sponsored the contest for students in the Chester County School District.

“The program’s mission is to create interest, excitement and encourage the development and use of scientific discipline to help prepare children for jobs in our ever-increasing technological society,” says Hank Eisenga, vice president of manufacturing for Giti.  “We were thrilled by the student’s participation in this year’s contest and very impressed by the quality of all the entries.”

Students apply at the beginning of the school year to become a member of the Giti Math and Science Club. The club meets at least 12 times during the school year.

Entries for the competition were judged on: design, written report, collaboration, presentation with a clear use of math and science in the process. The winning teams were named during a ceremony at the Gateway Conference Center in Richburg, S.C.

Giti began manufacturing passenger and light truck tires for the U.S. market at its 1.7 million square-foot facility in Richburg, S.C., in late 2017.
