Monro Buys 7 Appalachian Tire Stores

Monro Inc. has expanded its presence in the Appalachian region with the purchase of seven retail stores from Appalachian Tire Products Inc.

Monro says the acquisition of the seven Appalachian Tire full-service retail stores enables it to fill in markets in Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Virginia, states where it already has more than 250 locations.

The transaction closed March 4.

Four of the stores are located in West Virginia in the communities of Beckley, Charleston, Hurricane, and Lewisburg. The other  Appalachian Tire stores are in Athens, Ohio; Prestonsburg, Ky.; and Roanoke, Va.

The stores will be rebranded as Mr. Tire Auto Service Centers, one of eight major regional brands owned by Monro.

Monro has 1,150 company-owned stores and 102 franchised locations in 27 states.

The company’s tire stores place it at number 3 on the Modern Tire Dealer 100 list of the nation’s largest independent tire dealers.

Monro’s company-owned tire dealerships go to market under the brand names Monro Brakes/Tires Auto Service Centers; Mr. Tire Auto Service Centers; Tread Quarters Discount Tire Auto Service Centers; Kramer Tire; Ken Towery's Tire & Auto Care; The Tire Choice & Total Car Care, Kan Rock Tire Monro Auto Service Centers, AutoTire Car Care Centers, Cheshire Tire Auto Service Center, Tire Warehouse Tires for Less, Tire Barn Warehouse and Car-X Tire & Auto.

Following the sale of its seven retail stores, Appalachian Tire has 10 combination commercial/retail outlets, one commercial store and a retread plant.
