Yokohama Adds 2 SmartWay-Verified Trailer Tires to Its Lineup

Feb. 21, 2018

Two new fuel-efficient truck tires -- one an ultra wide-base tire -- will be available from Yokohama Tire Corp. in the U.S. and Canada on March 1, 2018. Both are trailer tires: the BluEarth 109L and BluEarth 109L UWB (ultra wide-base).

The SmartWay-verified tires will be available in the following sizes:

* BluEarth 109L -- 295/75R22.5, 11R22.5, 285/75R24.5 and 11R24.5.

* BluEarth 109L UWB -- 445/50R22.5.

"Fuel-efficiency is always top-of-mind for fleets and drivers,” says Tom Clauer, manager of commercial and OTR product planning. "Both the 109L and 109L UWB have Yokohama’s environmentally friendly BluEarth designation, which means they’ve been engineered for the utmost fuel-savings and performance."

Manufactured in Yokohama’s new plant in West Point, Miss., the 109L features Yokohama’s new advanced stress control groove design, which resists shoulder damage from sharp turns or accidental curbing. Additionally, the tread pattern fights scaling in lateral slides (common in tight maneuvers). Thanks to the ultra-durable casing, all sizes of the five-rib 109L are backed by a seven-year, unlimited tread warranty.

It also is produced with an advance compound that not only enhances fuel-efficiency, but also wears well.

The 109L UWB features a state-of-the-art compound that provides one of the lowest RRCs (rolling resistance coefficients) in the category without sacrificing tread wear, says the company. Also, an optimized tread pattern with seven circumferential grooves rolls smoothly for improved fuel-efficiency, while a highly durable zero-degree belt assures a consistently stable footprint for long, even wear.

Clauer described the 109L UWB as “Yokohama’s most fuel-efficient trailer tire… ever.”

Optimized sipes give the 109L UWB traction powerful braking ability in acclimate weather. The tire is backed by a six-year, three-retread warranty.

The tires will be on display in the Yokohama booth (No. 2821) at the American Trucking Associations' Technology & Maintenance Council meeting in Atlanta, Ga., March 5-8. For more details on Yokohama’s commercial tires, visit www.Yokohamatruck.com.
