Performance Plus holds food drive

Oct. 21, 2011

The annual food drive sponsored by Performance Plus Tire and Auto Superstore in Long Beach, Calif., is in full swing. The drive supports local families for Thanksgiving.

The food drive started 14 years ago, when then Performance Plus owner Hank Feldman and his son worked together on a Boy Scouts project. The scouts helped out as food sorters.

Last year, Feldman and co-owner Ricky Oropeza presided over an event that passed out more than 1,600 boxes of food that fed more than 500 local families selected by several Long Beach area charities. This company-sponsored event depends on the help of vendors, customers and other businesses.

Longtime support has come from the Long Beach Model T-Club, Wheel Pros, Coker Tire Co. Long Beach Police Officers Motor Patrol Association and many more.

This year, Performance Plus is holding drawings as part of its “Great Entertainment Giveaway.” The following prizes will be given away: a 65-inch Vizio Class Theater 3D Color HDTV; a Sony Blu-Ray Disc Home Theater System; and a Nintendo Wii Game system bundle with 14 games and four controllers. Raffle tickets are $1 each.

One ticket also will be given for each non-perishable food item brought into the store for the food drive.

The drawing for these prizes will be held on Sunday, Nov. 20, during Performance Plus Tire's fourth annual "Hot Rod Happening" event in the store parking lot from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Performance Plus Tire, located at 3910 Cherry Ave. in Long Beach, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Business hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
