Pirelli leads on Dow Jones Sustainability indexes

For the fifth year in a row, Pirelli Tire North America has been confirmed the world leader in the Autoparts and Tires sector in the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe and Dow Jones Sustainability World indexes. Pirelli earned a total score of 91, compared with a sector average of 53.

The 2011 analysis and review of each indexes’ components was carried out by SAM Group. SAM is a Swiss asset management investment group that focuses exclusively on sustainability investing. SAM directs the assessment and selection process for admission to the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes.

Admission criteria for inclusion in the indexes focused on economic, environmental and social areas. The economic area included corporate governance, risk management, codes of conduct, brand management and innovation processes.

On the environmental front, SAM investigates a company’s reporting, environmental policies, procedures and systems. SAM also looks at responsible product management, climate change and emissions reduction strategy, and energy efficiency. Social criteria include development and management of human resources, philanthropy, health and safety in the workplace, supply chain management and stakeholder engagement.
