Yokohama embraces ISO 14001 in Australia

Aug. 13, 2011

Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd.'s sales company in Australia, Yokohama Tyre Australia Pty. Ltd. (YTA), recently obtained ISO 14001 certification.

YTA was established in 1976 in Silverwater, New South Wales. It sells consumer and commercial tires.

The company began its efforts toward earning certification, which represents the international standard for environmental management systems, in August 2010. Its practices were first reviewed by the Australian examination organization SAI Global Ltd., and then certified.

YTA is the second of Yokohama Rubber's overseas tire sales companies to be accredited under ISO 14001. The first was Yokohama Tire Taiwan Co. Ltd.

"YTA is committed to preserving the environment, and obtained Green Stamp certification from the Motor Trade Association (MTA) in November 2010 as a company actively promoting environmental protection," says Yokhohama Rubber. In addition to ISO 14001, YTA has obtained ISO 9001 certification, an international standard for quality management systems.

In April 2006, Yokohama Rubber released its "Medium-Term Management Plan: Grand Design 100 (GD100)," which included a basic policy of asserting world-class strengths in technologies for protecting the environment. ISO 14001 certification is at the heart of its business operations.

A total of 28 Yokohama domestic and overseas production sites have been certified.
