Hankook gears up for DTM at Brands Hatch

July 15, 2011

The Hankook Team are busy preparing for the DTM event which is being held in the UK on the 2nd – 4th September at the Brands Hatch ‘bullring’ Indy circuit.  The thunderous 470bhp machines shall compete with some of the world’s best drivers including former Formula 1 star David Coulthard who forms part of the Mercedes-Benz team. “It was a lot of fun to race in Brands Hatch for the first time in DTM last year. It’s a track that the British fans enjoy because you can see the whole circuit. You have an incredibly coarse grid because of how short the lap is. But all drivers have been very impressed so far with Hankook and the supplied tyres, so we are upbeat about going into this event.” said David Coulthard. “The Engineers are as we should expect very professional and attentive to the drivers’ explanations. The balance of the car remains larger than last year so lap times in some cases are faster than we had before. The DTM is the fastest form of touring car racing and it does give quite a spectacular show.” added David.

Fellow British Audi Team Driver Oliver Jarvis also added “Brands Hatch is one of the shortest DTM tracks but it is a technically extremely demanding one and it’s very difficult to achieve a perfect lap there. Even though there are only very few curves every little mistake costs you dearly as the time lags in qualifying are so minimal. Often we are only milliseconds apart.  The premiere of our new tyre partner in the DTM has been awaited with much excitement by everyone. At half time of this DTM season one can only say: “Well done, Hankook”. The tires give a direct reliable feedback in every situation and Drivers and Engineers have many possibilities for further development. This is what you hope for in motorsport.  Brands Hatch is one of my favorite tracks. The spectators have a great overview of the whole circuit and of course my family and friends will be there for my home game."

“The relationship in place with the DTM has formed firm foundations for Hankook’s involvement in international motor sport.  As the seventh largest tyre manufacturer worldwide we are keen to support such a professional racing series that shares our passion and enthusiasm for quality” said Tony Lee, Managing Director of Hankook Tyre.
