Chris Doughtie of Terry’s Tire Town dies at 44

Chris Doughtie, operations manager for Terry’s Tire Town, Richmond, Va., passed away June 16, 2011, of pancreatic cancer at the age of 44.

He was born in Pitt County, N.C. and started in the tire business at a retail store in Greenville N.C. at the age of 17. Two years later he went to the American Tire division of Merchant's Tire and Auto, Durham, N.C., as a customer service representative. He later became manager of the company’s Richmond branch. He was instrumental in developing the company’s Web site.

He transitioned to the Heafner Tire Group when it purchased American Tire Distributors (ATD) from Merchants Tire. He ultimately became the Tire Starz Manager for ATD out of its division office in Haymarket, Va., and was operations manager for the company at its Landover, Md., office.

He joined Terry’s Tire Town in Richmond, Va., in Jan 2005. He was operations manager there and also developed the Terry’s Direct Web site for Terry’s Tire Town, recognized as one of the premier B2B Web sites in the industry.

He leaves behind his wife, Paula, and two daughters.
