General tires get air time in 'Fast Five'

June 30, 2011

General brand tires "stormed" the big screen April 29 as the official tire of the "Fast Five" movie, the fifth installment of "The Fast and the Furious" franchise.

To date, the film has grossed more than $200 million in the United States and nearly $600 million worldwide.

(This is not the first "Fast and Furious" movie to feature Continental products. See "Continental and General star in 'Fast & Furious.")

To celebrate the film’s release, Continental Tire the Americas LLC held the "Fast Five" Sweepstakes. The grand prize winner was Daniel Luscomb of Garland, Texas. He won a trip for two to Brazil, the location where the movie was filmed.

Runner-up Jennifer Brown of Cortland, Ohio, took home a world-famous custom "Fast Five" Gibson guitar. Three other winners -- Christa Lewis of Clayton, N.C.; Loc Do of Garden Grove, Calif.; and Theodore Becker of Dixon, Ill. -- were the lucky recipients of four new General tires.

The movie was the first of the series to be shown on the larger-than-life IMAX screen. It starred Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson and Jordana Brewster.
