Dealer of the Year Snider adds sixth plant

April 21, 2011

The "grand" opening of Snider Tire Inc.'s sixth retread plant was held without fanfare on April 21, 2011. The plant, located at the company's headquarters in Greensboro, N.C., simply began producing truck tire retreads.

Snider Tire was a Bandag retreader prior to becoming a Michelin Retread Technologies (MRT) franchisee in May 2009. The company produces 2,050 precure and mold cure truck tire retreads a day at its other five plants, making it the fifth largest retreader on Modern Tire Dealer's "Top 100 retreaders" list.

The sixth plant is expected to add 200 retreads a day to the total. CEO and President John Snider says the plant has the capacity to produce 400 a day.

"We didn't know we'd need a sixth plant. It was not on the drawing board. It was just done out of the need for additional capacity."

He describes the plant as one of his smallest. How does it compare to the company's largest plant, located in Statesville, N.C.? That facility has a production area of 50,000-square feet and produces between 650 and 700 truck tire retreads a day.

Snider is MTD's 2010 Tire Dealer of the Year. For more information on Snider and his 35-year-old, 42-store commercial operation, check out the Snider Tire story by clicking here.

The MRT network is 14 years old. It has 44 franchise members with 78 retreading plants in North America.
