Retail vs. commercial: the throwdown

April 21, 2011

One was a huge retail event. The other was an even huge-er commercial show. Was there a loser -- other than the person who wrote "huge-er" and thinks it is a real word?

No. Both the Tire Pros Business Conference in Miami, Fla., and the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky., were extremely well attended.

Tire Pros is a strictly retail franchise program run by American Tire Distributors Inc. Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Ulrich's report will appear in the May issue. (For a sneak peek, check out his on-site blog, "ATD doesn't believe in the 'hurry up and wait' concept of tire distribution.")

To see Ulrich's 15-photo visual coverage of the Tire Pros event, check out MTD's Facebook page by clicking here.

MATS, the Mid-America Trucking Show's nickname, drew more than 75,000 attendees from 81 countries. It's a good thing there is 1.2 million square feet of space in the Kentucky Exposition Center.

MTD's Michele Vargo, camera in hand, was at MATS. Her coverage also can be found on our Facebook page. To view 29 of her photos, click here (we left out the photo of her cat, Bandit).

When major events happen in the tire industry, Modern Tire Dealer is there. Visit www.moderntiredealer.com and the MTD Facebook page regularly to keep up!
