MTD's Tony Giamanco dies at 80

Anthony J. "Tony" Giamanco, former director of sales and marketing  for Modern Tire Dealer, died of congestive heart failure on Monday, April 4, 2011. He was 80.

Giamanco joined MTD, at the time owned by Bill Communications Inc., in 1979 as eastern sales manager. He loved working in the tire industry, and even after retiring in 2001 continued to receive the magazine.

His wife of 55 years, Anne, says Tony made many friends in the industry, and kept all the business cards he had collected while working at MTD

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Giamanco served in the United States Army in the Korean War and was a member of the Midland Park VFW near his home in Wyckoff, N.J. He was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth's Roman Catholic Church in Wyckoff, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

In addition to Anne, Giamanco is survived by his son, Thomas (Bonnie) Giamanco, of Wyckoff; his daughter, Geralyn (Thomas) Curcio, of Wyckoff; and his daughter, Carol (James) Haynes, of Franklin, Mass. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Anthony J. and Gianna Giamanco, and Danielle and Thomas Curcio Jr.; and his sister, Rosalie (Frank) Vitale, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, April 6, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff.

Funeral prayers will be held Thursday, April 7, at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth's Church, 700 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff. Entombment will be held at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association , P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
