Hankook Tire Co. Ltd. has received the "Tire Technology Award for Innovation and Excellence 2011" in the "Tire Manufacturer of the Year” category by a jury of tire industry experts at the Tire Technology Expo in Cologne, Germany, an award that organizers say recognizes the progress of Hankook Tire over the past 12 months.
"We consider this award as recognition towards our philosophy of sustainable global growth and of our commitment for our production sites,” says Jin Wook Choi, Executive Vice-President and European head of Hankook Tire.
Hankook Tire realized growth in 2010 despite an increase in commodity prices, and the company expanded its production capacities. With the construction of two new plants in China and Indonesia, the tire maker says its aim is to not only expand its production volume but also strengthen its global market position.
In Europe, Hankook Tire continues to grow, and in Hungary, the company is nearing completion of a second expansion phase. Hankook says capacity in Europe will then more than double, with 12 million tires produced annually
