CTNA promotes environmental responsibility

Dec. 11, 2008

Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA) is expanding its commitment to fuel efficiency improvement through a new program called "Continental Tire Responsibility."

The company is developing tires "with increased fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions, using sustainable materials and processes," says Andreas Gerstenberger, CTNA's executive vice president of sales and marketing.

"We've found we are able to combine both performance and lowered rolling resistance without compromising either characteristic."

The new campaign extends beyond tires, says Gerstenberger. By 2012, CTNA says it will have reduced its energy consumption by 18% over 2007 levels.

It also intends to reduce its CO2 emissions by 15.5% and its waste generation by 16.3%.
