Oct. 29, 2003

American Tire Distributors' 14th annual charity golf tournament held recently at The Peninsula Club near Charlotte, N.C., raised more than $40,000 for Loaves & Fishes, a local nondenominational, non-profit organization that provides food to people in crisis.

More than 140 golfers participated in the event.

“The money raised by American Tire Distributors will provide more than 61,500 meals for people in our local community,” said Beverly Howard, executive director of Loaves & Fishes.

“Their gift equals the largest gift we’ve ever received through a single donation and it is especially important to us now -- as our community has experienced massive layoffs and donations are low....”

Since the inception of the American Tire Distributors’ charity golf tournament, the company has raised more than $250,000 for various charitable organizations.

Last year, the company raised more than $40,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Ada Jenkins Center. In 2001, American Tire Distributors raised more than $45,000, part of which was donated to the American Red Cross for disaster relief in New York and Washington, D.C., in the wake of the September 11th terrorist attacks.
