Groupe Michelin and TRW have formed a joint venture, EnTire Solutions LLC, to supply original equipment vehicle manufacturers with tire pressure monitoring systems.
EnTire Solutions is a direct monitoring system and employs a battery-powered sensor mounted on the valve stem inside the wheel.
The sensor transmits tire pressure and temperature information via radio waves to a vehicle-mounted receiver.
"The product is designed to fit most vehicles currently manufactured worldwide," say Michelin and TRW officials.
The companies have been working together on the system for the past two years.
Several, unidentified OEMs have already selected
EnTire Solutions products.
"The first systems are being shipped to customers in Canada for introduction to the United States market next year."
Systems are being built at TRW facilities.
