Dempsey/Herder Win Class 1 of Baja 1000 on Toyo Open Country M/T

Nov. 28, 2008

Chuck Dempsey (driver of record) and John Herder drove their Speed Technologies/Toyo Tires/HMS open wheel "Avenger" racer to a win in Class 1 and 7th overall in last weekend's 41st Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 race in Baja California, Mexico.

The Chevrolet powered car was equipped with off-the-shelf 35X13.50R15 Toyo Open Country M/T tires. The Class 1 victory is the first-ever for the team in only their third Baja 1000 start.

"We had a great day and stayed in the lead the whole time," said Dempsey. "At one point, we were 45-minutes ahead of second place and then slowed our pace to conserve equipment. Our Toyo tires were awesome."

This year's course started and finished in Ensenada and was abbreviated to just over 631-miles in length. Even though it was shortened, the route punished competitors' vehicles, with only 65% finishing the race.
