Union to get seat on Goodyear board, according to reports

Aug. 29, 2003

Tyres & Accesories magazine is reporting that Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has agreed to give the United Steelworkers of America (USWA) a seat on its board as part of the parties' tentative labor agreement.

"We will neither confirm nor deny that," a Goodyear spokesman told mtdealer.com.

He said Goodyear is waiting for union members to ratify the proposed three-year contract, which they are scheduled to do by mid-September.

In addition, Tyres & Accessories is reporting that Steelworkers have agreed to give up raises for three years, pay more for health care and accept smaller pensions.

USWA officials were unavailable for comment.

Goodyear and Steelworkers forged a tentative agreement earlier this month after several months of intense negotiations.
