Goodyear to cut production at Dunlop plant

Nov. 25, 2008

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. will reduce production at its Dunlop tire plant in Buffalo, N.Y., in response to lower demand for passenger and medium truck tires.

The plant -- which currently operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week -- will cut back to three shifts, five days a week, for passenger, light truck and truck tire production, effective Dec. 1. (Motorcycle tire production will continue seven days a week.)

Goodyear will eliminate up to 150 jobs as part of the action.

The 85-year-old Buffalo plant can produce a total of 17,100 tires per day at full capacity, according to Modern Tire Dealer research.
