Pirelli receives robotics award

June 18, 2003

Pirelli Tire North America Inc. has received the 2003 Robots & Vision User Recognition Award for its MIRS (Modular Integrated Robotized System) tire manufacturing technology.

Pirelli currently uses MIRS in four factories; the system is expected to produce 600,000 tires by the end of the year, 150,000 of which will be built in the United States.

"Our panel of judges was extremely impressed by this innovative robotic application," says Donald Vincent, executive vice president of the Robotic Industries Association, one of the trade groups that sponsors the award.

Pirelli is the fourth company to win the award, which is presented every two years.
