Goodyear reports April market share gains

May 21, 2003

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. says it gained market share last month, with Goodyear brand tires accounting for most of the growth.

"In total, Goodyear gained one-half point of market share compared with April 2002," according to Goodyear officials in the company's monthly investor update that was released this morning.

However, the Akron, Ohio-based tiremaker's shipment numbers for April were a mixed bag.

Goodyear's replacement consumer tire shipments grew over the same period last year but its original equipment consumer tire shipments fell.

The company also reported that its segment operating income "declined due to higher raw material and conversion costs, and lower OE volume partially off-set by lower transportation costs."
