Bridgestone Americas Holding Inc. will introduce its Greatec super single truck tire to the United States market this July.
The 445/50R22.5 tire will be made in Japan, according to Bridgestone/Firestone truck tire official Don Darden.
"It's been running in Europe and Asia for quite some time," he says.
Truck manufacturer Kenworth will use the Greatec as original equipment and other companies like Paccar and Peterbilt are expected to follow suit.
"Distribution is going to be key" to the Greatec's domestic acceptance, according to Darden. "We want it to be available and want to get enough of them out there. We have a healthy (mix) of tire dealers and truck stops" that will carry the tire, which is being positioned to compete with the Michelin X-One and Goodyear Marathon."
The Greatec is on display at Bridgestone/Firestone's BizCon commercial tire conference this week in Las Vegas, Nev.
