Continental targets 2005 super single release date

March 6, 2003

"We're looking at a 2005 product release date" for Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA) super single truck tires currently in development, say Continental officials.

CTNA's super single line will include two products: the HDL, which has 25/32-inch tread depth, and the HTL, which has 13/32-inch tread depth.

Applications will include liquid bulk transport trucks.

Several kinks will have to be ironed out before the tires are introduced, says CTNA employee Curt Decker, the Charlotte, N.C.-based company's "super single guru."

"The width and low-profile of super singles make heat dissipation an issue we'll have to address."

Air loss is another concern. Decker says 95% of super single down-time in Europe is the direct result of deflation.
