Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire LLC's (BFNT) Des Moines, Iowa, farm tire plant has received the 2002 Governor's Iowa Environmental Excellence Award.
The Des Moines facility was recognized for reducing waste, boosting energy efficiency and other contributions, according to BFNT officials.
The factory reduced its use of pallets in the manufacturing process by 87% and recycled nearly 70% of its waste products in 2001; it also is realizing savings of $164,000 through dozens of energy improvements.
BFNT's Des Moines plant manufactures 6,800 ag tires a day at top capacity, according to Modern Tire Dealer data.
