PAX System makes its OE debut in North America

Jan. 6, 2003

Groupe Michelin's PAX System will be standard equipment on the 2004 Rolls Royce Phantom. It is the first North American fitment for the run-flat tire/wheel system.

Michelin will supply size 265x790 R540A tires to the Phantom, which will be available in the North American market in April. The companies will announce the union today at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).

The PAX run-flat tire/wheel system is made up of four elements: an unseatable tire, a wheel, a flexible support ring and a tire pressure monitoring device. In addition to its run-flat capabilities, the system improves handling, traction and fuel economy, according to the company.

Other Michelin brand tires also are being showcased as OE fitments on 2004 vehicles at the NAIAS. The vehicles include the following:

* 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. Michelin P235/65R17 Energy MXV4 Plus tires come standard on the vehicle. Michelin has 100 percent fitment on the Pacifica.

* 2004 Cadillac XLR. It runs on size P235/50ZR18 Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 ZP tires, which feature advanced run-flat technology, according to the company.
