Joseph Pehanick Sr. of East Bay Tire Dies

Joseph Pehanick, the former owner of East Bay Tire Co. of Fairfield, Ca., died Nov. 20, 2015, at his home. He was 86.

Pehanick spent almost half of his life at the tire dealership founded by his father-in-law, becoming CEO in 1989. In 2001, after nearly 40 years with the company, his sons George and Joseph Jr. were named CEO and president respectively. Pehanick also held office with the California State Tire Dealers Association.

He was born Sept. 25, 1929, in Scranton, Pa., the sixth of eight children to Mary Krake and Andrew Pehanick. He received a basketball scholarship to Seattle University, and graduated in 1956. He led the 1953-54 team on a school record, 26-game winning streak, averaging 20.5 points and 10 rebounds per game. He was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.
