Trelleborg Manufactures First Ag Tire in North America

Nov. 10, 2015

Trelleborg AB’s Wheel Systems Americas division has manufactured its first agricultural tire in North America at its new production facility in Spartanburg, S.C.

The 430,000-square-foot plant is Trelleborg’s first in North America dedicated to the manufacture of premium radial tires for agricultural machinery.

“Having a manufacturing presence in North America is central to our growth strategy,” says Andrea Masella, country manager agricultural and forestry tires for Trelleborg Wheel Systems Americas.

“The manufacture of our first North American made agricultural tire represents a significant milestone for us and for our customers.”

The new production facility enables Trelleborg to increase production capacity and ensure close proximity of premium tires both for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and tire dealers, according to Masella.

The Spartanburg production facility represents an investment of $50 million. Plans are to create up to 150 jobs by 2018.

The Spartanburg facility is one of the most automated manufacturing facilities in the agricultural industry, according toMarco D'Angelo, industrial director for Trelleborg Wheel Systems. “This enables us to guarantee the highest standard of production to customers across the North American market,” says D’Angelo.

Trelleborg says customers will be able to visit the Spartanburg facility themselves following the plant’s grand opening in January 2016.

On Nov. 9, Trelleborg announced an agreement to acquire ČGS Holding a.s, the parent of Mitas a.s.

The deal, which is expected to close in the first half of 2016, will almost double the revenues of Trelleborg Wheel Systems.
