An improved forecast for the trucking industry

Aug. 5, 2015

The GE Capital Corp. says the 'underwhelming' performance of the trucking industry in the second quarter of 2015 looks to improve throughout the second half of the year.

In its latest Truck Transportation Industry Update, GE says the freight environment is expected to improve as better weather and there's relief from the logjam at the West Coast ports.

"Freight trends however should continue to show gradual improvement given recent positive employment trends coupled with expectations of a modest acceleration in the GDP growth throughthe seocnd half of 2015.

"The outlook however is not without potential challenges, particularly the likelihood of rising interests rates, which could keep tonnage associated with general economic activity and residential construction activity in particular, from reaching full potential."
