West Virginia dealer Edward James Petros dies

Edward James Petros, the second generation of a four-generation tire business family, died June 21, 2015. He was 80.

Petros was born in Wheeling, W.Va. and attended West Virginia University. In 1955 he went to work in the family tire business, JEPCO Tire in Wheeling with his father, George “Pete” Petros and three uncles. In 1964 he started Tire Sales Inc., a wholesale truck tire retread shop, in Mt. Echo, W.V. He continued to operate the business until his son David Petros acquired it, starting the family’s third generation of tire professionals.

According to a notice from the Retread Tire Association, “Petros was the proud father of three sons in the tire business,” David E. Petros, owner of Oasis Tire Truck Service in Hartford, Conn.; James E. Petros, manager of Oasis Tire, and Edward E. Petros, district sales manager of GCR Tires & Service, a division of Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations LLC, in Orlando, Fla. A grandson, Ryan Petros, is working at Oasis Tire.

Petros “was very proud of the family heritage of tire professionals and the opportunities it provided for his family for generations.”

Following Petros’ request, no formal funeral services will be held. A celebration of life family gather will be held Saturday, June 27. Memorials are suggested in his name to the Marshall County Animal Shelter, RD 5 Box 210, 12th Street, Moundsville, W.V., 26041.
