June 15, 2015

lllinois Tool Works Inc.’s Permatex division has introduced a waterproof tape for use in a wide variety of automotive and general repair applications. Permatex Self-fusing Silicone Tape (P/N 82112) is a fast-acting tape that bonds to itself and instantly creates an airtight, waterproof seal.

The new tape can be used for quick and secure repairs on hoses, pipes, cables, wiring, electrical connections, and more, according to the company. Permatex Self-fusing Silicone Tape is designed to create an extremely tight seal and is ideal for application areas that may become wet or are in contact with running water.

In addition to waterproofing, the tape has a tensile strength of 700 psi for use on pressurized hoses, is heat resistant to 400° F, insulates electric wires up to 400V, and withstands salt, acids, and solvents such as gasoline.

Permatex Self-fusing Silicone Tape can be used in place of duct and electrical tape. The company says it is an ideal solution to quick home repairs on applications such as connector hoses, electrical connections, emergency fuel or water leaks, video and audio cables, piping, and wiring insulation. It can also be used to wrap tool handles for a better grip.

Permatex has developed a brief YouTube video that demonstrates the tape’s performance and shows customers how to use it in a variety of repairs.

Permatex markets a wide range of products under ITW brand names such as Permatex, Fast Orange, Spray Nine, the Right Stuff, Gel Twist, Ultra Bond and Dr. Bond, Ultra Cherry, and Grez-Off.
