Women's Board raises $7,000 for scholarships

March 3, 2015

The Car Care Council Women’s Board (WB) raised more than $7,000 in its third annual silent auction during the 2015 Women’s Board Winter Leadership Conference, held Feb. 4-5 at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Fla.

Items for the auction were donated by WB associate companies and auto care industry supporters, and all proceeds will go to the WB scholarship fund, allowing the group to award a record number of scholarships in 2015.

“A key objective of the WB is to support and encourage women pursuing a career in the automotive aftermarket," says Amy Mattinat WB president. "What better way are we able to do this than through the WB scholarship fund? We could not be more excited with the results achieved at our silent auction, and we thank every individual and organization that contributed to its success.”

This year, the WB will be giving eight scholarships to female students studying to enter the auto care industry – four to postsecondary students and four to high school students. The Becky Babcox Women’s Board scholarship recipient, a postsecondary student, will receive $5,000 and a trip to the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) in Las Vegas.

The WB will administer the 2015 Continental Female Leadership Scholarship, awarding $5,000 to an additional postsecondary student. Two other postsecondary students will receive $4,000 and $3,000 respectively. Three high school senior recipients will receive $3,000 and one student will receive $1,000.

Other highlights of the WB conference included a technician panel, an update on industry trends and a workshop on public speaking.
