Goodyear recalls 48,512 Fortera HL tires

Jan. 30, 2015

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is recalling certain Fortera HL P255/65R18 109S tires manufactured Nov. 30, 2014, to Jan. 10, 2015.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign ID number for the recall is 15T002. The potential number of affected units is 48,512.

According to NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation, the affected tires experienced cracking of the tread during tire endurance testing inspection. As a result, these tires fail to comply with requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 139, "New pneumatic radial tires for light vehicles."

"If the tires experience tread cracking, it may result in a loss of tire pressure and possible tire failure, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash," says NHTSA.

Those tires installed as original equipment on certain 2015 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia models are being replaced free of charge by General Motors Corp. under safety recall 15V-044. GM will notify the affected vehicle owners.

GM vehicle owners may contact GM at (800) 521-7300 (Buick), (800) 222-1020 (Chevrolet) or (800) 462-8782 (GMC). GM's number for this recall is 15025/15067.

Replacement equipment tires are being replaced free of charged by Goodyear. The company will notify all owners for which it has registration information.

Owners of the replacement equipment tires being recalled may contact Goodyear at (800) 592-3267.
