Michelin to add 41 sizes to Premier line

Jan. 15, 2015

Michelin North America Inc. is planning to expand its Premier tire line this year.

The company will be introducing 41 new sizes in 2015 with fitments targeted for CUVs and SUVs. Although not identifying the car companies, Michelin also said the Premier tire will be OE on both passenger and light trucks during the 2016 model year.

Scott Clark, chief operating officer of Michelin North Americas Small Tires made the announcement at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit on Jan. 13.

Clark also said the Premier tire line, introduced during the 2014 NAIAS had surpassed the company’s sales goals. The company promotes the tire as “a significant breakthrough in automotive safety” due to its ability to maintain grip and traction even as the tire wears down and is worn.

The Michelin Premier initially was available in 32 sizes ranging from 185/65R15 to 245/45R18 fitting a range of passenger cars including the Cadillac CTS, Ford Fusion, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry among others. Michelin offers a limited 60,000-mile warranty with the tire.

The Michelin Premier line is being manufactured in North America at Michelin plants in Lexington and Greenville, S.C., Ardmore, Okla., and Pictou County and Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.
