Smithers Bolsters Test Center's Capabilities

Dec. 26, 2019

Smithers has made a number of investments at its Ravenna, Ohio, tire testing center, including new equipment to measure load deflection, inflation pressure loss rate and tire footprint.

According to Smithers officials, the facility’s new load deflection and footprint machine can accommodate passenger, medium truck and bus tires, including wide-base truck tires.

“The machine can conduct footprint shape and pressure distribution and offers a second station for longitudinal, lateral, and vertical spring rate testing,” they note.

“Smithers has also invested in the capability to condition and measure inflation pressure loss rate to most industry standards. Because proper tire inflation greatly increases safety, handling, fuel efficiency, and tire longevity, this type of testing is crucial for tire companies looking to ensure the best possible experience for their customers."

"Smithers is committed to adding new testing capabilities so we can continue to meet the evolving needs of our valued clients in this vital sector,” says Matt Kent, the center’s technical director.
