Bridgestone Corp. Proposes New CEO: Shu Ishibashi

Dec. 16, 2019

Shuichi "Shu" Ishibashi is poised to take over as CEO and representative executive officer of Bridgestone Corp.

The company's board of directors recently proposed the change in leadership subject to approval at the next board of directors meeting, to be held after Bridgestone's annual shareholders' meeting in March 2020.

Ishibashi joned the company in 1977. He not only has a lot of experience in both the tire and diversifed products businesses in the U.S. and Japan, but also has developed global business models for the solution and original equipment businesses.

Over his 42-year career, he also has been involved with strategic planning, technology, quality management and corporate administration. His current positions are vice chairman and representative executive officer.

If the proposal is approved, he will succeed Masaaki Tsuya, and Masahiro Higashi, senior vice president and executive officer, will replace Ishibashi.

Tsuya may be "retiring" from his roles as CEO and representative executive officer, but he will remain chairman of the Bridgestone Corp. Board of Directors.
