Nexen Offers $30,000 Match to Help Veterans

Nov. 26, 2019

As part of the Nexen Hero III Program, Nexen Tire America Inc. has pledged up to a $30,000 match for donations made to the Purple Heart Foundation scholarship program through Dec. 3.

The donations should be made through the Nexen Hero website, www.NexenTireUSA.com/NexenHero.

That's the same site where Nexen is collecting nominations of honorably discharged veterans to be named the company's next Nexen Hero.

With the scholarship fund, the Purple Heart Foundation helps veterans pursue education and training after they return from battle. Retired Army Cpt. Greg Galeazzi was deployed to Afghanistan in the summer of 2010, and after the loss of a commander, he took charge of the platoon. Under his leadership, the platoon had no additional casualties until May 26, 2011. On that day an improvised explosive device exploded at Galeazzi's feet, blowing off his legs and nearly destroying his right arm.

He was awarded the Purple Heart and after several months of surgeries and rehabilitation, Galeazzi set his focus on a new goal — medical school. He was accepted to Harvard Medical School, and while the U.S. Department of Veterans would pay for his tuition, he still faced many out-of-pocket expenses. He was awarded a $4,500 scholarship from the Purple Heart Foundation.

"We are honored to know these donations will go directly toward helping a well-deserving veteran like Galeazzi earn an education after sacrificing so much for our nation, which is why we're committed to matching those donations made during the Nexen Hero III Campaign," says John Hagan, executive vice president of sales for Nexen Tire America. "We believe it is our responsibility to help deserving veterans and we encourage friends, families of veterans, and the veterans themselves to nominate someone to receive the Nexen Hero Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and be part of this incredible program.”

There's still time to nominate a veteran to win the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, and to donate to the Purple Heart Foundation to maximize Nexen's matching donation. The deadline is Dec. 3.

The winner of the Jeep will be announced live on national TV during the week of Dec. 16. To be eligible, nominees must be honorably discharged veterans from the U.S. armed services, subject to verification by the nominees’ DD-214 form and be willing to consent to a background check. The Nexen Hero Jeep Wrangler Rubicon recipient will be selected by Nexen Tire America, Inc. representatives in collaboration with the Purple Heart Foundation based on a variety of factors, including their overall military service and ongoing commitment to their community.
