Auto Care Association Will Discuss Vehicle Data Access During AAPEX

Oct. 16, 2019

The Auto Care Association will present the latest solutions for standardization of the repair of automated vehicle systems during next month’s Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo.

The association’s Emerging Technologies Booth (#31021) in the Venetian Ballroom of the Venetian Hotel “will feature three informational kiosks highlighting vehicle technology progression, what the latest technological developments mean for the consumer, and what the aftermarket is doing about it today,” according to Auto Care Association officials.

This includes a presentation about vehicle data access and how it “can be secure, safe and authorized by vehicle owners through implementations of recently approved international standards that were sponsored by the association.” (Click here to read more about the vehicle data access issue and how it impacts independent tire dealerships that offer automotive service.)

Other presentations will cover advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including how the current state of “ADAS recalibration is quickly becoming a critical safety issue,” and embedded vehicle device software, including “how the development of standards for fair and equitable access to embedded device software is vital to the repair and maintenance of today’s vehicles.”

Presentations will take place Nov. 5-7.

“In less than five years, 90% of new cars will be wirelessly transmitting real-time driver behavior and vehicle data,” says Bill Hanvey, president and CEO of the Auto Care Association.

“These advanced vehicle technologies will have a lasting influence on our industry, which means securing the authentication and standardization of accessing vehicle telematics will be vital to the aftermarket’s ability to maintain and repair these vehicles down the road.”
