Goodyear Expands San Angelo Proving Grounds

Oct. 2, 2019

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has added a second vehicle dynamics area at its proving grounds in San Angelo, Texas, which is celebrating its 75th year in operation.

The 324,000-square-foot pad "is optimized for tire testing in extreme wet conditions and is a precision-engineered, paved surface with a one-degree slope to enable constant water flow across the surface," according to Goodyear officials.

Goodyear also is building an additional evaluation facility for its OTR tires at the San Angelo location.

The company recently added a 25-foot-tall, 250-ton earthmover haul truck to its test fleet there.

Goodyear's San Angelo facility, which covers 7,250 acres and includes 58 miles of roads and track, "is vital to Goodyear's product development process, and we are continuing to invest in its capability to bring innovative tires to customers," says Chris Helsel, Goodyear's chief technology officer.
